COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH GROUPS

Research groups are at the heart of the Grant Center’s mission, bringing together the brightest academic minds and practitioners who are innovating in the American Jewish world today. These research groups are particularly important to the Grant Center’s operation because they provide a forum to build and nurture the core content that we bring to wider audiences.  This includes publishing peer-reviewed scholarly content developed from Grant Center research groups, as well as content for broader audiences, including podcasts, website content, and innovative features such as VR and AR.

RESEARCH PROJECT SUPPORT

Your generous support will help fund cutting-edge research projects, overseen by members of our world-class faculty.  These projects will embrace the breadth and depth of American Jewish experiences and will generally align with the research foci of our faculty.  Projects currently under consideration include work on Jews of the Former Soviet Union, exploration of grandchildren artists of Holocaust survivors and how they creatively interpret and carry on their family’s memories, work situated at the nexus of capitalism and migration, and Jewish survival strategies and migration to the United States on the eve of the Holocaust.  This funding will support partnerships with universities and scholars around the globe, adding a rich tapestry of programs and perspectives to the Grant Center.  It will also leverage the strengths of our world-class faculty.

PUBLICATION SUPPORT

Publication Support funding will allow the Grant Center to continue to provide tangible academic outcomes from our research groups, providing an outlet for peer-reviewed, Grant Center supported content.  Beginning in 2026, and for a three-year trial, each volume of the academic journal Jewish Historical Studies will include scholarly articles, roundtable discussions, or other published content that will bring Grant Center academic programs to worldwide scholarly audiences.  Additional funding would allow the Grant Center to launch a high-profile book series, further supporting the top scholarship in American Jewish Studies.

PUBLIC FACING SCHOLARSHIP SUPPORT

Utilizing our research groups and programs as a source of cutting-edge content, the Grant Center also aims to produce public-facing content including podcasts, AR/VR projects, and innovative content for our website.  Projects currently under consideration include the podcast “Glittering Threads,” a captivating and colorful journey through the intertwined histories of Jews and drag in the United States.  The immersive nature of AR and VR has been shown to increase engagement and retention, and as such we are also exploring AR/VR components to augment Grant Center-supported projects.  Finally, these funds would also support content on our digital platform, AmericanJewishStudies.org, which offers a wealth of information and educational materials on the American Jewish experience, catering not only to scholars of Jewish American history but also to global audiences.

CULTURE AND HERITAGE SERIES

The Grant Center’s Culture and Heritage Series offers a journey through the symbiotic influences of Jewish culture and American culture, featuring lectures, discussions, and live concerts, and other artistic exhibitions.  Building on the success of our previous discussions on Jewish cuisine and culture in New Orleans, we are now exploring other forms of American Jewish culture, such as the intersection of Jews and American music. Other future topics may include Jews and theater, Jews and coffee culture, and American Jews in the film and television industries.  The Culture and Heritage Series would also support the arts, including live performances, demonstrations, and exhibitions.
